Poker is a card game played between two or more players and involves betting. The game can be won by having the best hand or by intimidating your opponents with bluffing skills. There is a large element of luck in poker, but the best players understand that their long term results are based on skill.<\/p>\n
Each player is dealt 2 cards face down and there is a round of betting. The round begins with the player to the left of the dealer placing 2 mandatory bets called blinds into the pot.<\/p>\n
After the blinds are placed the flop is dealt. The flop consists of 5 community cards. The player with the highest card in their hand wins. There is another round of betting at this point.<\/p>\n
During each betting interval a player may say “raise” to increase the amount of money in the pot. The other players must then either call the new raise or fold. If they fold, then their hands are discarded and replaced by new cards.<\/p>\n
In some poker variations, a player can also “check” during a betting interval. However, if a player checks and the next player raises, then that player must call the new raise or drop. When a player checks, they must still put at least as many chips into the pot as any player who has raised previously.
