Online Gambling involves the playing of games of chance where people can win real money. It is a massive industry worth over $85 billion worldwide, and it has grown rapidly since the \u201990s. This growth has been fuelled by the development of new technologies, increased internet speeds and the widespread availability of smartphones.<\/p>\n

It is important to remember that gambling online is a serious problem and can be addictive. Some people develop a gambling disorder which can have significant negative effects on their lives, including lost work, family and health. The disorder can also disrupt relationships, cause debt and lead to legal problems such as arrest or jail time.<\/p>\n

Some online casinos offer time-out periods and loss limits. These features are a good way to keep players from over-playing or getting carried away. In addition, many online casinos are regulated and are unlikely to rig their games or take advantage of players.<\/p>\n

Many young people are exposed to gambling advertising and marketing through social media, TV and the web. In the UK, the government has launched a consultation on loot boxes in video games to establish whether they should be classed as gambling.<\/p>\n

Gambling-related problems can have a wide range of negative impacts on children and young people\u2019s lives. They can include disruption to relationships and feelings of withdrawal when a person tries to cut back or stop gambling. In addition, some young people resort to illegal activities such as theft or fraud to fund their gambling habit.
